So here we are, over 1 year on from the UK’s 1st national Lockdown since the Covid-19 Pandemic begun and whilst it has been a time that none of us could have even imagined, we are here to share the success in industry that has happened over the past year…
There have been some huge moments in History over the past year but also some amazingly positive success stories and resources that may not have had the coverage they need and if anything, the coverage WE need. As the world has tackled the pandemic day by day we, very much so, need to hear every bit of positivity we can get. In the UK it’s no secret that small to medium sized businesses have really struggled and even suffered closures as well as certain sectors really taking the hit.

Success Stories in the Industrial Sectors since March 2020
M-CNC Ltd, a Bridgwater-based company supported the NHS by manufacturing and supplying components for lifesaving ventilators – which is now known as the Ventilator Challenge. During the peaks of the pandemic, the NHS were under a lot of pressure and in need of much more equipment – this is where M-CNC were selected to manufacturer and supply components for the much needed ventilators. Hoffman Group UK aims to double it’s size and change it’s focus – to be much more efficient and helps it’s customers whilst the growth will increase jobs. They also introduced remote consultation service to help Manufacturers during the pandemic – showing that there are ways to work around the struggles and keep things operating.

Somerset-based company SureCav – which manufactures cavities for walls using 100 per cent recycled plastic, has experienced a huge uplift in business during the pandemic – and even launched a new website. July 2020 was the firms busiest month that year – Read more HERE.
£3.6 Million had been invested into a derelict Rowley Regis site to transform the space into modern industrial and distribution units which are in short supply across the West Midlands. Andy Street, the Mayor or the West Midlands says he is ‘delighted’ in this investment. – After the Budget announcement it was confirmed a £100 million boost for Wolverhampton, Rowley Regis, West Bromwich and Smethwick. “STEM women hosted virtual events across the UK introducing 133 exhibiting employers to 3,421 women studying STEM subjects. Following our events, many of the female attendees contacted us to tell us they had received offers for placements, graduate schemes, and roles.” Read more HERE.
Supplier Skills Programme – A £12m Skills fund created to help SME’s to upskill staff and develop their workforces on the road to recovery from the pandemic – It will run until 2023 – creating much more job opportunities. Read more HERE.
WHS Plastics, a global manufacturer of plastic injection moulding products, which supplies the automotive, industrial and electronics sector, has moved into its 75,000 sq ft national distribution centre at its Minworth site in Sutton Coldfield. Read more HERE.
Nasmyth Group, a Coventry-based Manufacturer reported a turnover of £84.6m, including joint ventures, for the 12 months to 31 January 2020, up from £81.6m: Read full story HERE.
Made FUTURES – A virtual exhibition week by Made in the Midlands which was a successful and new way of working during the lack of face-to-face events. “Made Futures was launched in 2021 to help solve challenges around employment due to the pandemic. The Made in Group has always strived to help manufacturers and businesses alike with current industry issues. With over 1.5 million of people losing their jobs in the UK over the course of the pandemic coupled with the existing skills gap in the UK industry, we launched the Made Futures virtual careers fair and Jobs board to connect manufacturers with local job seekers – who are passionate about UK industry. ” – Yasmin Banner, Digital Communications Manager at Made in Group.
Specialied industrial services provider, Eriks, has announced a major new UK headquarters and fulfilment centre in Oldbury, West Midlands. Due to open in the summer, the multi-million-pound, fulfilment centre is between two major motorway junctions on the M5, providing excellent transport links, and covers over 11,000m2 – Read more HERE.
